You may have seen in a recent newsletter that we are working to raise money for nearly ten children who are in need of various surgeries. One-year-old Ginger’s heart surgery will be taking place later this month as soon as we raise all the funds, and I am so pleased to announce that we have raised half the amount of US$15,000 that we need! She came to us a few months ago from Inner Mongolia, the first child from her orphanage to come into

our care. They were worried by the complexity of her case: she has a diaphragm deformity, and her heart rests in a mass outside her lower abdomen. We love seeing her scoot-scoot everywhere–outside, she heads for the big gate; inside, the light streaming in open windows holds the most interest for her. If you are interested in helping fund Ginger’s surgery, or any of the other children in need, please contact us at info @ chinaorphans.org (minus spaces!).

If you are an adoptive parent &/or friend of PHF with a blog, I’d like to link to it! I’m always amazed at the stories and insights of our families & friends! Please send! (or post in the comments!). I’m not sure of the protocol for just putting it on the list, so please advise if you know! Oh, and there will be some moderation. : )

Three doctors. 36 Volunteers. Two Days. 12 Hours. 992 Clients.

Trying to manage the crowds
What a whirlwind week! We had three teams here serving our kids & community, including a slew of volunteers here to run Luxottica Group Foundation’s two day Gift of Sight . Though one of the smaller projects of the more than 130 they’ve done in the last 17 years, we were proud to partner with them to reach out to our local staff and community on Oct 23 & 24. Our hearts rejoiced with the seventy-year-old woman who received her first pair of glasses and saw clearly for the first time. Another woman in her late thirties was the first I’ve met who delighted in her wrinkles, newly revealed by her first pair of glasses. Our upcoming Oct/Nov newsletter has pictures of the project, but check out our Picasa album, too, for more soon-to-be-posted pictures: http://picasaweb.google.com/PhilipHaydenFoundation.

Shia with her Family!
Twenty-month-old Shia met her family of six last weekend. The tears lasted a bit at first, but we’ve heard good things since! Please join us in praying for them as they continue to travel in China and bond together. God has blessed Shia with a beautiful family, and we are delighted to have played a small part in her story.

- Hayden Sun Yuanyuan
Six-year-old Hayden Sun Yuanyuan is always quick to pull guests down to sit next to her and chat, and it’s usually more sweet command than gentle request. Though here just a short time–she moved to House of Love in July–she’s quickly captured our hearts. Hayden has a large tumor on her cheek, which has grown significantly in the last few months, and tomorrow she heads to a surgery team in Hefei with Dr. Moody. U.S. Surgeon Dr. Lisa Buckmiller will meet them there to help remove the tumor from Hayden’s face. This is a very delicate surgery, as the mass is attached to the nerves in her cheek, and we ask for your prayers in guiding the surgeons & giving Hayden peace. We know she has a long healing journey ahead of her, and we can’t wait to see her back home. We lift her up to Jehovah Rapha–our God who Heals.

We have just moved our site to a new server, which has meant we’ve had to abandon a few things, including our old blog. We’ll pick it up here again, and fortunately, the switch means our China-based staff can access the blog again! If you’ve been subscribing to the old blog, you may have to re-subscribe to this one. Sorry for the bit of trouble, but we hope it means we can leave more info about our kids and the happenings at Shepherd’s Field!
A huge thanks to recent visitor Mike W. for helping us switch and work out the kinks of the new system!
