Special Needs: Spinal Tumor (Post Operation)

Number of Sponsors Needed: 10

Trinity is a 13 month old that was born with a meningocele mass in her lower back area. They did a surgical removal of this defect at about 6 months of age. As is often the case with this condition, she also developed hydrocephalus and had a shunt operation. It appears both surgeries were successful although there is some weakness in the left leg and foot. This is likely due to nerve damage caused by the initial surgery to remove the tumor mass. It is, however, a minimal complication–with her young age and therapy, we hope to improve her abilities. Her ayi reports she is crying a lot and we will have to sort out if this is due to pain or just an adjustment issue to new surroundings. It is often the later and the kids become remarkably different within a few days.

If you would consider sponsoring Trinity for just $35 per month, please e-mail ChildSponsor@ChinaOrphans.org.

Number of Sponsors Needed: 10

Sally is a 20 month old that was born without an anal opening. (The medical term for this is imperforate anus.) Shortly after birth she had a colostomy operation to provide an opening to the outside. This was followed by closure of the colostomy and the surgical creation of an anal opening. In her case it appears these operations were successful. There remains the surgical scars from the colostomy and anal repair operations on her abdomen. Otherwise she appears to be a healthy and happy child. The ayi that is caring for her said she may be slightly delayed in her development. (This is often the case with new arrivals and we usually see dramatic improvements in most children within weeks.)

Tyler arrived at SFCV with us knowing very little about him beforehand. In addition to the speech, motor, and mental delays, his file also indicates significant hearing loss. Physically he appears healthy with normal weight and height for his age. He also arrived with a rash which our medical team suspected to be a scabies skin infestation. He was treated for that immediately so that he doesn’t pose a risk to the other children and now he is settling into the House of Love.

In spite of the international financial uncertainty lingering on, the needs of our children continue to grow. We have never turned a child away and God has always provided the financial support needed to care for each one. But we’ve noticed a peculiar thing—God’s provision has always come through individuals just like you!

We need your help more than ever with the following specific needs:

Sponsorships: Just $35 each month helps provide our operating budget for the food, clothing and care needed by each child in our village. Sponsorships of individual houses are also available, providing the housing and utilities for an entire group of children.

School: Our new school is ready for children just as soon as we furnish the rooms. An average of $2,500 furnishes one room.

Medical: We currently have several children in need of medical care: Sam, Walter, Joelle, Lily-Diana, Grace, and others. $15,000 is needed to replenish our medical fund.

Vocational Center: $37,000 is due for the foundation and the next phase totals $109,000.

We trust that one of these projects is within reach for practically every person reading this newsletter. Will you help us care for these incredible children? If so, please e-mail us: info@chinaorphans.org.

Thanks in advance for your love, prayers, and support!

On Thursday afternoon, our new Outreach Center erupted in applause and cheers as Jamison entered the room…This celebration was especially for him. He had been working with several of our staff and volunteers for this special moment, a concert for his mom that turned into a mini talent show but with special emphasis on this special young man.

Jamison jumped and clapped on his way to the seat of honor before promptly taking center stage to sing “Take me home.” After some of the other kids had a chance to entertain the crowd, including a group of 40 from Impact English Camp who were visiting that day, he took the stage again to play his version of “Jesus Loves Me” on the electric guitar.

Perhaps the most touching moment of the afternoon could have been easily missed. During one of the stage changes, several of the older boys took turns hugging Jamison and telling him goodbye…Wow!

He will depart on Sunday morning, returning to his province so his adoption can be finalized…A week later he should be headed to his forever home. How cool is that!
